Water Sustainability At Home

  • Close taps during short intervals of non-use.

    •  i.e. Brushing teeth, shaving, or cleaning kitchen utensils.

  • Take short showers instead of baths.

    • Showers use 50% less water than baths.

    • Taking only 5 minute showers can also save around 3500 litres a month.

  • Soak dishes in warm water first.

    • This is more effective than scraping in running water and saves water and effort.

  • Use electric domestic appliances efficiently.

    • i.e. Start washing machines, dishwashers, etc, only when completely full.

  • Fix water leaks immediately.

    • A dripping tap could use 40 litres of water a day.

  • Collect the water that runs while you are waiting for it to come out hot.

    • This water can be used to water plants, clean facilities, etc.

  • Collect rainwater to water plants and water plants early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid water evaporating before it sinks in.

  • Use drip irrigation to water your plants.

    • This prevents overwatering, runoff, and evaporation.
